The place has a certain visual appeal.

The curious (Homer Simpsonesque) pink pig beckons you to the pecan smoked meats.

They said my link was "Smoke Boudin," but it lacked any smoke color
or flavor. |
Ambiance: The
place has lots of appeal from the outside, but inside it is lacking.
Too many flies and the pink picnic tables have seen better days. Location:
1221 N. Martin Luther King Highway, Lake Charles, LA 70601-2049
The Boudin
Price: $1.85 per link.
Presentation: The link is
kept at temperature in a large warmer/vertical oven where it sits wrapped in
plastic wrap. From there it is snuggly encased in foil.
Casing: The casing is thin
and brittle enough that it breaks to the bite.
Meat/Rice Ratio: Significantly
more rice than meat Texture: Dry,
dry, dry with chewy bits of meat and some undercooked and pelletized
grains of rice.
Spice: Mild. Overall Flavor: They
told me that this was a link of "smoked" boudin, but there was no
smoke flavor. It is not particularly fresh tasting and is
clear that they utilize dried parsley, onion and
green pepper. Can you say "yuck?" Comments: The Pink
Pig is really eye catching with all the pink and pig going on.
I don't know about the signature pecan smoked bbq. However,
when it
comes to boudin, I'd suggest you make your way to
Sonnier's which is
only about a half mile away.

It is drier than it looks in this photo.
